The Whole is the Art.

The Whole is the Art –

The STWST as a Ship & Kriechlicht Das Wesen (Crreeping Light The Being)

Transformation & Gesamtkunstwerk has not been completed!

Two related works from the STWST New Art Contexts and as a Quasikunst conceptualisation:

The STWST as a ship: We imagine the building as a ship and moor it in the square. A razzle-dazzle disorientation pattern on the building extends the façade as an artistic display. Parts of the shipwreck Eleonore lie in front of the STWST on the square – as an explosion installation.

Inside the building, the second work, Kriechlicht Das Wesen: Points of light crawl through the house as beings seeking their manifestation.

As creeping lights, they penetrate parts of the house and lead to the next work, Sleep Ship I-III, Uprise of the Imagination: This work proclaims on text panels: The whole is art. Gesamtkunstwerk has not been completed.

All works have been developed as quasi-art concepts and have been realised with several projects and/or contributors. Credits at the links!

Die STWST als Schiff (STWST as a Ship)

The STWSTas a place of imagination and resistance – we imagine the building as a ship, mooring it to the square. A razzle-dazzle disorientation pattern on the building extends the façade as an artistic display. Parts of the wrecked ship Eleonore lie in front of the STWST on the square – as an explosion installation. Points of light crawl through the house as creatures seeking its manifestation – as creeping lights they pervade parts of the house and proclaims on text panels: the ship and the non-ship, a NOT ON PLANET EARTH and a revolt of imagination.

With this abstractions, the STWST focusses on its theory and research tracks. Stadtwerkstatt asserts nothing less than a transformational Gesamtkunstwerk that awakens as an entity and develops consciousness. As an idea of itself and equipped with its own consciousness, this Gesamtkunstwerk constantly creates new ideas of itself in order to change its form and remain unfinished. Today a ship, tomorrow a planet of sleep. Even if the idea of a Gesamtkunstwerk may be crazy in view of technological developments and an imminent major paradigm shift: absoluteness, imagination and contradiction are still the relevant materials with which we should work.

The whole is the art. Gesamtkunstwerk not finished.

STWST as a ship is an overall concept of Stadtwerkstatt and Quasikunst that involves STWST artists and critical producers, additional projects and most levels of in-house production. Concept and texts: Tanja Brandmayr/Quasikunst. All participating projects and persons at the corresponding links: https://stwst48x10.stwst.at/en/die_stwst_als_schiff – and links below!

Kriechlicht Das Wesen (Creeping Light The Being)

The STWST as a place of imagination and manifestation. Dots of light crawl through the house as beings seeking their manifestation – or scanning their surroundings: Points of light run through parts of the house and defy clear interpretation. Anyone who wants to see a light sculpture should do so. We, however, claim points of light as cohabitants of a yet unknown kind.

In their fundamental otherness, the creeping lights move on sculptural tracks across the ceilings of the house, disappearing back into the wall at key points, imagining themselves somewhere else – or continuing elsewhere in the house or even in their own future.

With this abstraction, STWST is focussing on its long-standing exploration of the topic of consciousness and, in contrast to the current big data and AI discourses, would like to highlight the difference between relative and actual consciousness: A being IS A CATEGORY LEAP – and not a mechanical increase in complexity. We thus negate the amazement at technology, alias capitulation to the technocapitalist contexts that have become totalitarian.

The media are making themselves invisible – and so do we.

Paraphrase: In the house of the Stadtwerkstatt, this discourse splits into substance and essence. When the former disappears, the latter, stripped of its form, can be absorbed by the walls of the house, because the being tirelessly searches for matter that could carry it; even if this search results in many a contradictory work of art.

STWST Announcement: Anyone who knows the original passage paraphrased above and the novel from which it was paraphrased and sends the novel title, author’s name and the paraphrased passage to office@stwst.at will be rewarded with an as yet unknown gift from STWST. (*Deadline expired at the end of 2024)

The STWST adds: absoluteness, imagination and contradiction are still the relevant materials with which we should work. And yes, enriched by the imagination, man’s greatest natural gift.
